Family Law Costs and Fees

One of the first questions most people ask is: How much will this cost?

It is a fair question. Legal costs are real and we believe transparency about fees is part of treating clients with respect.

How Fees Are Structured

Fixed fees

We offer fixed-fee pricing for services where scope is predictable. This includes initial consultations ($495 incl. GST), pre-mediation conferences ($750 incl. GST), mediation representation, uncontested divorce applications, consent orders where terms are agreed, and standard binding financial agreements.

Hourly Rates

For complex or contested matters such as disputed property settlements, high-conflict parenting disputes, or court proceedings, we charge on an hourly basis with clear written estimates before work begins. We review estimates with you as the matter progresses.

What Affects the Cost of Your Matter

Level of agreement: Cooperative matters cost significantly less than contested ones.

Asset complexity: Business interests, trusts, and international assets add to costs.

Court involvement: Mediated and negotiated outcomes are far less costly than litigation.

Delays and non-disclosure: These increase costs for everyone.

Expert reports: Business valuations and forensic accounting are additional where required.

Our mediation-first approach is specifically designed to resolve matters cost-effectively. Thorough preparation, supported by lawyers with formal mediator training, means our clients reach resolution faster and at significantly less cost than those who proceed to court.
